Dubai // Nine hundred and thirty children born to Emirati mothers and foreign fathers are awaiting final approval to be granted citizenship when they turn 18.

The names of the children have been submitted to President Sheikh Khalifa by the committee assigned to implement his decree on naturalisation according to the state news agency Wam.

The President conferred citizenship rights on to such children in a decree that coincided with the 40th National Day last year. Last month, 53 adults who were born to Emirati mothers and foreign fathers were handed their UAE passports in a ceremony aired on national television.

The citizenship rights are not granted until the individuals turn 18.

A committee chaired by Ahmed Huma Al Zaabi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs, Finalised the names in a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Supreme Council for National Security, and National Security Authority.
